Mouth to Lung vs. Direct to Lung Vaping

Mouth to Lung vs. Direct to Lung Vaping

There are 2 different kinds of vaping, we refer to both of these as Mouth to Lung (MTL) and Direct Lung (DL sometimes called Sub Ohm). Everyone vapes differently and every tank or device performs differently, being able to distinguish what kind of vaping you prefer will help narrow down the options.

Mouth to Lung is described as when the user takes the vapour into their mouth and then takes it back inhaling the vapour. This method is most like smoking a cigarette and typically is a tighter, more restrictive draw.

Direct to Lung vaping is where the user takes the vapour straight into the lungs bypassing the mouth (Like taking a deep breath straight to your chest). Devices that use Direct to Lung typically have much more airflow and is a lot airier, this is the kind of vaping people tend to have to adapt to.

Tanks are usually designed for one way or the other. The easiest way to tell is if they have large air channels they are for direct to lung and if they have small holes to let the air into the tank they are designed for mouth to lung. The restriction of the air channels is what makes the mouth to lung vapes the most natural choice for people looking to switch from traditional smoking.

There are devices that cater for a best of both worlds this is known as Restricted Direct to Lung but still requires the vapour to be taken straight to lung rather than more natural way most people smoke which is Mouth to Lung.

The style of vaping you go for will dictate what kind of liquid is best for you, for more information on liquid choices see our guide on What is 50vg 50pg or High PG?
