Why Is My Vape Not Working? Start With These Checks

Work through a systematic checklist before assuming the device is faulty

Most vaping problems are solved in under five minutes

When a vape device stops working correctly, the temptation is to assume it is broken. In the majority of cases, the problem is one of four things: the battery needs charging, the coil or pod is not properly seated, the liquid level is too low or the coil needs replacing. Working through these checks in order resolves the problem for most customers without any technical knowledge required.

The troubleshooting checklist

Work Through This Checklist in Order

1

Check the battery

Is the battery LED solid or flashing? A rapidly flashing LED often indicates a low battery. Charge the device fully before investigating further.

2

Check the liquid level

A coil running dry produces a burnt taste or no vapour. Check that the tank or pod has sufficient liquid. If running low, refill before continuing.

3

Check the coil or pod connection

Remove and reinsert the coil or pod. Clean any liquid residue from the connection points with a dry tissue. Ensure the coil or pod clicks fully into place.

4

Check the coil age

When did you last change the coil? Coils typically last one to three weeks. If you cannot remember, replace the coil with a new one, properly primed, and test again.

5

Check the airflow

Are the airflow ports unobstructed? Lint, liquid residue or a closed airflow ring can prevent draws even when the device is firing.

6

Check for safety lock

Many devices have a five-click lock/unlock mechanism. Five rapid presses of the fire button unlocks the device if it has been accidentally locked. The LED will typically flash to confirm unlock.

"Nine times out of ten when a customer brings in a device that is not working, it is the battery or the coil. Check those two first and you will solve the problem 90% of the time."
